phooey

Honestly, the lack of rigour.

I'm drinking at wunibar ahead of an undergrad electronic music gig. Nearly the entire cohort of performers has over the past few hours settled into the adjoining booth.

Now when I was trollin' boxxy we had a code, and that code was port and wine was brought back-stage for bump-in and we would drink and fight for mixing desk rights over the course of the day. By the afternoon, there remained a small enough number of us that could see past the LEDs on the desk that the problem solved itself, with the passed-out gently rousing a cheeky hour or so before the work they were thinking they'd finish that day was to be performed.

It was then customary to take laptops to the paragon hotel so as to finish pieces out of sight of examiners. Typically, bar service was quite slow due to examiners' flirtations with bar-staff (this would include many 'staff' jokes), however drawing their attention to the flow-on effects of said flirtations ('I'm hoping your wife enjoys my new work but it looks as though the soundscape "Paragon Dreaming" is all I'll manage for tonight...') certainly filled out the time.

And THAT'S how we roll. Look at the cheumps!

Discussing analog/digital, drum tracks and local studio contacts. "Seriously, man, if you write a great drum track I know at least 5 really, really respected drummers around town that would love to play it. And these guys, they really know how to mic their kit but they just don't know any chords, you know? They are great but they need us."

Booja!

Hunibar: Enjoying a drink at the local pub having left a bolognese on
the stove for an hour. Sister comes home and calls me to bitch about
my having used one of her onions. This pisses Maatron right off, and
she requests an onion from the pub kitchen then runs down the road and
lobs it into the house!

Chiefly dating advice

Dating nerds? Nerds who date? Chieflympic exposé?

Bonus explainer: The very alert among you will note that this month's issue of 'Girlfriend' came in plastic packaging yet this photograph is clearly of an un-covered magazine.

Artist's Impression

Waiting at the University train station for the first time in a while,
and I notice what must a new 'Welcome to Wuni' billboard with what is
obviously an artist's impression of a quite charming building that I'm
certain does not exist anywhere on campus. The Wuniness!

getting closer to hauling the perfect carillon

A maat just punched this out for me

Love how art-deco that is. Bringing the Newtown ruckus to the carillon world!

Just wrapped up a very decent trip hanging out in oxford. The conference beforehand was so enjoyable that it gave me serious pause for thought about ditching the academic lifestyle. The visit to oxford took that thought out back and Dooleyed it with extreme prejudice. (see http://unterspier.blogspot.com/2009/09/immediate-improvement.html)

fruitful labour, indeed!

I went to an evening of electronic music down here last night, and it took me until I got home to really understand how I felt about w'town. Immortalised thusly:
